Sister Hannie Williams is a highly experienced nurse with 41 years of nursing, including 20 years specializing in diabetes care. Born in Calendon as the 4th of five children, with both parents in nursing and psychiatric nursing, she was inspired to become a nurse at the age of 4. After completing her matric, she earned a nursing degree from Stellenbosch, one of the first groups to graduate with four qualifications: General Nursing, Community Healthcare, Psychiatry, and Midwifery. Her career began in hospitals and family GP practices, and in 2004, she joined Dr. Gracjan Podgorski’s diabetic specialist practice, where her passion for diabetes care was ignited. She credits Dr. Podgorski for mentoring her in the management and treatment of diabetes. Sister Williams has been happily married for 37 years and has two grown sons. With her extensive experience, she is now ready to continue supporting the Eastern Cape’s diabetic community with expert knowledge and care following Dr. Podgorski’s retirement in 2024.
